Nigel Rayment was just 15 when he joined Edward Mann, one of the largest hat manufacturers of the time, as a factory assistant. The ambitious young boy stayed behind on Fridays to design hats in his own time, and his first collection of six hats proved to be the 'best sellers' of that season.
Study at the London College of Fashion was followed by employment with a small but expanding company, and in 1999, Nigel's partners retired, enabling him to buy the firm, now called Nigel Rayment.
